Pune, February 19, 2026 – A chaotic scene unfolded at Shivneri Fort early Thursday as thousands gathered to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The celebrations, which drew significant crowds, led to an unfortunate incident that left three individuals injured.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when a group of celebrants carrying torches began descending the fort near the Meena Darwaja in Junnar tehsil. As the fast-moving group navigated the overcrowded area, a push from above caused a domino effect, resulting in four to five people falling to the ground.

“Our police team present there advised them to slow down,” Superintendent of Police for Pune Rural, Sandip Singh Gill stated. “However, before the advice could be heeded, a person was pushed from the upper side, which led to the unfortunate fall.”

The police promptly intervened, assisting those injured and ensuring the safe movement of the crowd resumed without further incident. “We have deployed additional police force and the movement of people is now taking place smoothly,” Gill added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, were present at the fort for the celebrations, highlighting the occasion's significance in the state. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation as the day’s events proceed.
